Birds of a Feather

This week I attended a fantastic workshop at Splashout Studios with guest presenter Kate Lewis. The subject was “Birds of a Feather” with Kate taking us through the process of painting our feathered friends in acrylics. I was thrilled to find that the subject of our workshop was Owl-bert Einstein, the barking owl star of the free flight show at Adelaide Zoo! I’d seen Owl-bert in action just a couple of weeks ago so it was great to have the opportunity to capture her likeness on canvas.

Kate’s painting took her a month and was incredibly detailed – not something that could be emulated in just 6 hours! But the group learned how to create a feather effect and while none of us finished in the time allowed, we all made a pretty good effort and had some great results.

Here’s my Owl-bert – not finished yet but well on the way!
